The concept for LILAK – HAP Four , like all my designs for HAP are embracing the democratization of design or what I call affordable luxury. With new technologies and smart solutions as well as the new changing global contemporary sensibilities everyone can afford and desires high quality, high design, high aesthetics, and high performance environments.
The façade color-story is inspired by the New York State bush, Lilac (Syringa vulgaris), which has been reinterpreted into a pixilated image across it resulting in various shades of purples, lilacs, silver, and golds. I created a building that uses pattern, geometry, light and color to provide the luxury of well-being to its inhabitants. Like pixels, the exterior is composed of a grid using a new technology of lightweight square panels. Within the grid are unique shaped windows some of the windows are abstracted Hebrew alphabet letters spelling the words “life” and “love”but these words have great meaning to the local cultures who have inhabited Inwood for years from the Irish to the Spanish to the Dominicans.
